The challenge is always deciding what to talk about or how to start. With a life in forestry and diversity I have learned how to combine skill sets from two disciplines to actualize a single vision. However, when you lead diverse individuals you must at times help develop multiple visions because when working with multiple cultures if you value the experiences of others. If I was to tell you how to accomplish this, even I would think it was daunting, until I think about my failures and successes. As a person that was obese and overweight for most my youth and early adult life, I have made lifestyle changes that translate into my personal interactions. Another experience I have is as a campus pastor, which engages spirituality and religious aspects of myself. When you are guiding the spiritual growth of others, you start to see how personal upbringing, individual self-perception and professional paths all are internally and/or externally driven. Therefore, one must also be aware of their personal, physical and mental health to lead effectively. Great leaders can demonstrate for others what is expected to succeed.

Lastly, as an artist I have worked to perfect a craft of expression and music. When I combine the drive as a musician, the curiosity as a scientist, the lived experience as a black male in the US, a supportive minister to a congregation and the training as an educator, there are number of lessons I can share. There is also a lot of wisdom I can give as it relates to public engagement and leadership.

On this blog I’ll be sharing thoughts, articles, and ideas with you that will guide your steps in diversity actuation and will walk you through my thinking processes that have contributed to my success.
